this is my voice i hope that you find it pretty
and sway to the sound as it floats through the city
Cover my face in the day nobody knows me
I stand in this place in the night reciting poetry
When there's no one on the streets to give me dirty looks
but the girls on the corner, and the killers and the crooks
I emerge from the pit where the good people ignore me
and i find a place to sit as i weave my story
I sit in the park in the stillness of the dark
when there's silence in the air you can hear your beating heart
when the townsfolk are gone and there's no one left around
i flll the air with sound till the moon goes down
In the day they look away with disgust or maybe pity
It's easy to ignore me but hard to get rid of me
but in the night, i am with you and all of you are with me
When the kids are in bed, my lullaby flies through the city
my music fills the void in the subways and alleyways
my words paint a picture of fright and woe
it echoes off the walls of the sewers, and the city hall
and slinks into your bedroom through the crack in the window
nestled on your pillow and slithering near
holding you close whispering in your ear
always i am with you as you toss and turn and scream
but nowhere to be seen as you wake from your dream
this is my face as you wake and come alive
find it staring in the mirror but you won't recognize
you could swear you saw a shadow in the corner of your eye
just a trick of the light or something inside
have you ever felt uncomfortable in your own skin
have you swore you heard words carried by on the wind
never fear, i am closer than you think my friend
and tonight, as you dream i will sing to you again
